EU Customs Changes – July 2021

From the 1st of July 2021 the systems currently in place that govern parcels imported from both the UK and USA into Europe will change, namely the adjustment of VAT charges for Low value parcels. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify some of these changes taking place at the end of this month:

On the 1st of July 2021, the 27 member states of the European Union introduce reforms to the VAT obligations for B2C ecommerce sellers and marketplaces. The former EU customs system which included Medium Value parcels (between EUR 22 – EUR 150) is no longer applicable, leaving only Low and High parcel values. This was put in place to create an easier, more manageable ‘Green Channel’ customs clearance process.

Please see below important information just as known at this stage and applicable in general at EU level. Please note that, unlike Brexit negotiations, there will be no transition period taking effect; from 01/07/21, VAT can and will be chargeable.

For parcels of Low Value (up to the amount of EUR 150) Import VAT is charged though no import duty is applicable; for Low Value parcels from the UK and US into EU an Import customs clearance service will be required and the following services fees will be charged:

  • Import Customs Clearance Fee of EUR 4.98
  • Import Customs Payments Fee of 9.98% / (min EUR 0.98)*

And for parcels of High Value (above EUR 150) import VAT and import duties will be applicable; for High Value parcels from the UK and US into EU an Import customs clearance service will be required and the following services fees will be charged:

  • Import Customs Clearance Fee from EUR 9.98
  • Import Customs Payments Fee from 9.98% / (min EUR 0.98)*

*(applied to the value of custom payments made on behalf of the client: VAT, customs duties, and others)

Import customs formalities remain a requirement for parcels entering the EU from both the UK and US to ensure then the free movement of goods during transport within EU. We will still require information regarding your parcel’s contents, value, and documentation. Once a parcel has reached and been processed in our UK and US origin warehouses, EshopWedrop will request this information from you to ensure expedited customs clearance.

We would like to assure our customers that we are working hard to ensure a smooth and seamless transition to the new system, and we thank you for your continued understanding and patience in this matter. Weekly departures will resume under these new conditions from 05/07/21.
